About Monica
Suder

Monica Suder works with the international photographic community as a creative
and career coach, consultant, lecturer, panelist, and educator.
She brings to her multi-cultural coaching practice over 25 years of professional
experience in New York City and San Francisco. She is an award-winning
photo editor, and has worked as a director of photography, journalist,
producer, art buyer and marketing consultant.
Monica, daughter of a Bohemian actress, studied languages in Lausanne,
Switzerland and London, England. She began her publishing career in Geneva,
before settling in New York City.
She has been actively engaged in the creative process throughout her life
and has explored photography, film & video, theater, arts and literature.
Monica has worked in a number of countries and is fluent in German, French and English.
She has been a photography professional since the late 60s, when she joined Magnum
Photos in New York City. During her years at Time-Life
Books, Monica conceptualized, coordinated and directed extensive
location and studio photography in Europe and New York for the ground-breaking Foods
of the World book-series.
As director of photography at Holiday Magazine (which
was the prototype for Conde-Nast's Travel and Leisure), Monica had the
opportunity to work with the world's top photographers. She quickly established
herself in the dynamic and rapidly expanding photography world as a respected
editor and a devoted supporter of the photographic community.
After traveling extensively in Europe, Central America, Indonesia, Thailand,
Nepal and India, she relocated to San Francisco and became photo-editor
at Rolling Stone and Outside magazine.
She also photo-edited two large-scale photo-books for Rolling Stone Press
and Random House: The History of Rock and Roll and The
Sixties - A Decade in Pictures, which was selected "Best
of the Year" by the American Institute of Graphic Arts for its outstanding
photographs.
Shortly after leaving Outside magazine, Monica produced a video update
on the case of the plutonium worker Karen Silkwood, who died in a mysterious
car accident. Later, she helped start an international theatre festival
and then went on to found an international cultural exchange program, which
was warmly received by the ministries of culture in Europe.
Suder eventually started her own business, providing consulting services
to publishers, electronic media producers, photographers and design firms.
She has photo-edited more than 50 books, publications and annual reports.
As Monica continued to work with highly accomplished photographers and
writers, she came to realize the importance of nurturing all aspects of
the creative spirit. She now helps image-makers, artists and other creative
professionals achieve their goals through coaching and consulting.
In 1998, Monica launched her coaching business and soon established herself
as the leading coach to the photographic community. She graduated from
the Coaches Training Institute in San Rafael, California, as a Certified
Co-active Coach (CPCC). She also studied creativity at the Creative Problem
Solving Institute at the University of Buffalo (CPSI).
Monica has given workshops and talks on photography, taught graduate students
in photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and been
a guest lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
She has been closely involved in the evolution of the innovative national
Success Team Program developed by APA (Advertising Photographers of America)
and was a Success Team Coach in New York and San Francisco.
Monica is a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), the Plus
Advisory Council (Picture Licensing Universal System), Women in Photography,
and Fotovision.
